Meet Songsil Adamedes-Schmid, Market Research Ninja and music fan.

Current Role…Research Executive

Location…Melbourne, Australia.

Three words that best describe my role are….
Challenging, diverse and a little bit crazy!

The knowledge and skills I needed to get this role were…
I enjoy discovering what makes people tick – a curious mind is crucial. There is nothing better than having good communication skills and being able to project manage effectively. This has helped me tremendously by allowing me to build great relationships with colleagues and clients. Second to that, my degree in marketing (hon) provided me with some quantitative and qualitative research skills such as advanced statistics and the ability to conduct in-depth interviews and focus groups. I use these skills everyday.

I got these by…
Nothing is better than experience! I volunteered as an intern at a market research firm for 2 – 3 days a weeks whilst I was looking for full time work. I honestly have to say it was during this time I grew and learnt the most. Some people told me I was crazy for doing unpaid work and even encouraged me to leave, but the experience was so enriching, challenging and fun!

I spend most of my day…
Everyday is different but I mainly find myself writing reports, analyzing data, client meetings, managing projects and drinking way too much coffee. My favorite would be analyzing data as you get to be the first to discover key insights and be able to learn cool new things everyday.

When I was growing up I wanted to be…
An artist.

I still love…
Arts, crafts and music.

The best career tip I’ve been given…
The best tip would be from my intern mentor who told me, “If you want to be promoted to the next level you have to already be working as if you were at the next level.”

The coolest opportunity I have had in my career so far…
I have to say being able to travel interstate and working ‘on the ground’ doing fieldwork, and working with clients is really amazing. Once I traveled to Tasmania with the Managing Director to interview individuals about superannuation. We had so much fun and worked hard to get the job done!

My first job…
I was at the front counter at McDonalds.

Game of Thrones or Starwars?
Game of Thrones is amazing but I’ll always be a Starwars fan!

My best career advice would be…
Put yourself out there! What’s the worst that can happen? They’ll just say no. And that’s not the end of the world.
